How Japanese heavy music travels
Four bands singled out because each shows a different route from a scene network to international growth. The text below is the same as in the reference; the status lines are the Status as of 24 September 2026 table.
Four current cases are singled out on the interactive map, Nemophila, Broken by the Scream, Bridear and Lovebites, because each illuminates a different mechanism by which Japanese heavy music travels: personnel convergence and rebuilding with an international orientation; a hybrid idol metal format entering global metal infrastructure through a label and a festival circuit; a Fukuoka band sustaining international activity from outside the Tokyo hub; and institutional scaling from a stable working unit. A network can seed a band, while institutions can scale it; the scene does not produce one type of success, it produces multiple pathways. A case is featured only when it rests on at least one official artist, label, promoter, festival or campaign source, an independent source for any historical, financial or superlative claim, a date, a defined relationship or event, a separation of completed from announced activity, and no reliance on private communications unless explicitly authorized and archived. Node size and centrality on the map are computed from the dataset and are not adjusted for the cases. The Music Cities™ has published interviews with Nemophila, Broken by the Scream and Bridear on its channel; they are linked from the map and the cases page and are not used as sources for any claim in this reference.
Nemophilaネモフィラ
Lineup transition across five prior scene lines. Personnel continuity, rebuilding and international orientation.
Nemophila carries more analytical weight on this map than its size suggests, because its 2019 session lineup joined five prior personnel lines, then became a bridge between the Destrose derived girls metal network and an internationally oriented heavy rock audience. Its 2026 transition is therefore not only a lineup change: it is a test of whether a band built through overlapping scene networks can retain continuity while rebuilding its working core. iKA, announced as support guitarist for the June 2026 shows, is coded as guest support and nothing more [NIK]. In an artist authorized message shared with The Music Cities, Mayu said the band needs time but intends to return as an even cooler, best version of Nemophila, and asked audiences to enjoy the current lineup during 2026 [MCM].
Observed status as of 24 September 2026
Active. Nemophila began as a five member session band in August 2019: Mayu, Saki, Hazuki, Haraguchi-san and Tamu Murata. Saki left in March 2024. Tamu Murata formally left at the end of July 2026. Mayu and Haraguchi-san remain the continuing core. iKA announced as support guitarist for the June 2026 shows. Gozo EP, January 2026.
Announced or scheduled
Tamu Murata is scheduled to continue as support drummer through the 12 October 2026 EX Theater Roppongi show, a bill shared with East of Eden, NEK! and Trident. Hazuki is scheduled to leave after that show. The band has said it will place greater emphasis on international activity after the transition. In an artist authorized message shared with The Music Cities, Mayu said the band needs time but intends to return as an even cooler, best version of Nemophila, and asked audiences to enjoy the current lineup during 2026.

Broken by the Screamブロークンバイザスクリーム
Metal Blade signing plus European bookings. Hybrid idol metal entering global metal infrastructure.
Broken by the Scream combines idol performance with metalcore and deathcore rather than treating the two as separate markets; its Metal Blade signing on 5 February 2026 and its 2026 Screaming Rebellion Europe Tour (London, Summer Breeze, Reload, with a Wacken booking) place it among the clearest current examples of Japanese idol metal entering established international metal infrastructure, and the case matters because it tests whether a hybrid format can move from scene novelty to durable label supported export.
Observed status as of 24 September 2026
Active. Signed to Metal Blade on 5 February 2026. Completed a 2025 nine date European tour including Resurrection Fest and Japan Expo. Screaming Rebellion Europe Tour, summer 2026: played Downstairs at The Dome, London, on 2 August, Summer Breeze on 13 August and Reload on 14 August, each recorded on setlist.fm; booked for Wacken Open Air on 29 July per the Metal Blade announcement, an appearance not separately recorded in the sources checked.
Announced or scheduled
Lunar Fest, Stockholm, 4 December 2026: booked on the bill announced in May, removed with every Japanese act on 6 September 2026 when the organizers could not fund the Nordic and Japanese format; the organizers name the Japanese collaboration as an aim for 2027.

Bridearブライディア
Fukuoka based: Metal Matsuri to a UK label to a world tour cut short, then a crowdfunded restart. Export sustained from outside the Tokyo hub on a founding core that has held since 2011.
Bridear (November 2011) is Fukuoka's export and, within this dataset, the most extensively documented export run by any band based outside the Tokyo hub: Budapest and Brussels in 2017, Metal Matsuri in London in 2019, which produced a UK label deal with Setsuzoku Records, a European tour in autumn 2021 that the band's biography reports as the first by a Japanese artist after the onset of the pandemic, Born Again recorded in Gothenburg with Fredrik Nordström in 2024, and Into the World Forever, the tour the band billed as its first world tour, which opened in Australia that October supporting Nordström's own band Dream Evil and lost its European and UK leg in 2025 to Kimi's throat treatment, all built on a Kimi and Haru core that has held since the founding. Since then: Reborn 2013-2016 (April 2025), Zurbarán Rock Burgos (July 2025), the drummer Natsumi's departure (announced December 2025, last show May 2026), and a crowdfunding campaign in August and September 2026 that raised 203 percent of its goal to record and release independently after a contract dispute with a former overseas label, with Kimi, Ayumi, Moe and Haru continuing [AVO] [INS] [BRX] [CFB].
Observed status as of 24 September 2026
Active as Kimi, Ayumi, Moe and Haru. Born Again (June 2024, IYT and Psychomanteum, recorded at Studio Fredman, Gothenburg). Into the World Forever, the tour the band billed as its first world tour, opened with five nights in Australia supporting Dream Evil, 31 October to 4 November 2024, and a Tokyo homecoming on 16 November; its European and UK leg (19 March to 12 April 2025) was canceled on 20 February 2025 when Kimi announced that her throat needed treatment. Reborn 2013-2016, a self cover mini album, 16 April 2025; Zurbarán Rock Burgos, Spain, 19 July 2025, with all five members (Misaki stood in on guitar for the August and September 2025 dates while Moe was off the stage). Natsumi's departure was announced on 28 December 2025; she played as a support member until her last show, Toward a New Horizon, Shibuya Star Lounge, 10 May 2026; the sources used name no successor on drums. Crowdfunding on CAMPFIRE opened 25 August 2026 to record and release new music independently and to restructure after a contract dispute with an unnamed former overseas label that had stopped distribution of some releases and restricted activity abroad; the campaign lists Kimi, Ayumi, Moe and Haru as the members.
Announced or scheduled
The campaign closed on 30 September 2026, after the cutoff, at ¥6,101,277 from 380 supporters, 203 percent of the ¥3,000,000 goal (rechecked 4 October 2026). Lunar Fest, Stockholm, 4 December 2026: booked on the bill announced in May, removed with every Japanese act on 6 September 2026 when the organizers could not fund the Nordic and Japanese format.

Lovebitesラヴバイツ
From personnel roots to institutional reach. First on the full graph, far lower on personnel only: labels, festivals and awards scale a stable working unit.
Lovebites is the leading institutional bridge in this dataset: its strongest connections run through export labels, international festival appearances, media recognition, distribution pathways and documented collaborations rather than through an unusually dense web of continuing personnel moves. The band was seeded by the women's scene personnel network, most visibly through the former Destrose members Miho and Haruna, alongside Midori's route from Gekijo Metalicche, and it has since operated as a comparatively stable unit, with one lineup change in ten years. That contrast matters. On the full graph Lovebites ranks 1 of 324 nodes on betweenness (0.170); on the personnel only graph it ranks 14 (0.010), below the leading women's scene bridges, while Nemophila ranks 7. The case shows that a scene network can produce an act while export infrastructure scales it without requiring ongoing member circulation. In the project's reading, Lovebites is not outside the scene: it is evidence that the scene's institutional layer can carry a band into a different kind of global connectivity. Lovebites is institutionally open and personnel stable.
